  1. Sōke BBQ & Hotpot
  2. Our Story

Sōke means head of the family

Sōke (pronounced “so-keh”) comes from Japanese. It means the head of the family, or the grandmaster of a martial art. That idea is behind everything we do in Brooklyn Park.

BBQ and hot pot, under one roof

Owner Linh Huynh opened Sōke on Edinburgh Centre Drive in July 2023 as the first restaurant in Minnesota to serve Korean barbecue and hot pot together. Every table has a grill in the middle and a pot for simmering broth, so you choose how your meal goes: grill, hot pot, or both.

Go all you can eat, or order à la carte. Either way, our slogan holds: come for the meat, stay for the side dishes.

From pho to the grill

Linh Huynh grew up in Vietnam. She opened her first pho restaurant in the Twin Cities in 2008 and Rolls & Bowls in Brooklyn Park in 2020. Sōke followed in July 2023, with a grand opening on July 26.

At opening there were six hot pot broths and the menu was à la carte. Today there are nine broths, all-you-can-eat lunch and dinner, and a full Vietnamese kitchen. A robot even helped show guests to their tables in the early days.

Sōke is a locally owned, women-owned and Asian-owned restaurant at 8586 Edinburgh Centre Drive. It is a short drive from Brooklyn Center, Maple Grove and the rest of the north metro, and one Yelp reviewer drove up from Lakeville and Burnsville for their first Korean BBQ and hot pot.

Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese

Sōke’s kitchen cooks across Asia. There are nine hot pot broths, from pho and miso to Sichuan spicy and Thai tom yum; Korean bulgogi, tteokbokki and bibimbap; and a full Vietnamese menu with stone pho, bún bò Huế, special trays and bánh mì.

Part of the family

Mochinut shares the building, so dessert is mochi donuts and bubble tea. Servers walk first-timers through the grill and the pot, and there is a make-your-own sauce bar. We want every guest to feel like part of the family.
